Tiger balm is for external use only. It’s an ointment remedy that functions as a heat rub with a refreshing coolness relieving all kind of pain so be symptoms of headaches and cold, rheumatic or arthritic pains, or muscle strains and others conditions. It contains menthol, camphor, cajaput oil, mint oil, clove bud oil, paraffin and petroleum jelly. The composition varies, depending on the kind of Tiger Balm ointment.

The product can only be applied where it hurts with a light massage. This operation must me repeated 2 to 3 times per day. In each application, the small quantity applied on the skin must be quickly rubbed with a vertical hand until a warm sensation. In case of inflammatory reaction which shows itself by pruritus or eczema, applications must be stopped.

It has to be stored in cool dry place away from direct sunlight and must not be used on children under 3 years.

 

Price and regulation

Tiger balm is an eponym brand made in Eastern and South-east Asia. We can count more than 13 manufacturers in Asia and the product is commercialized in 17 different forms. Until now, there isn’t any rules and regulation that forbids Tiger Balm importation and distribution in France. According to harmlessness tests realized by AFSSAPA, only 0, 5% of the persons who used the product have had cutaneous reaction. Following a conflict between customs administration and a Tiger Balm importer, the court of appeal concerned returned the following verdict: “It can’t be assimilated in any case to a medicine. By respecting contraindication appearing on the packaging and note, it does not represent any particular danger for the user.”

Other characteristic is that we can use Tiger Balm without prescription.

Tiger balm prices vary depending on the product composition, its commercial shape (ointment, oil or cream, soft) and the quantity contained in a jar. As for ointments, prices go from 5 Euros for 10g to 10 Euros for 30g. For oils, prices vary between 6 for a 25g soft box and 12 Euros for a 57 ml jar. Tiger Balm packs prices that contain more than 4 jars vary from 20 to 50 Euros.
